Fforwm: Cardiff Experimental Theatre Society

Fforwm: Cardiff Experimental Theatre Society (‘Fforwm’) has recently been setup by students wanting to explore and get creative with progressive forms of performance art. Theatre is as diverse an art form as any other and traditional, scripted theatre represents one strand amongst many. Through a programme of workshops members will be able to learn about radically different approaches to theatre, as well as cultivating skills and techniques including acting, a variety of dance, street performing, circus skills, musical improvisation, storytelling, stand-up comedy and many more. This training will be developed by applying it through issue-based performance with and for Cardiff University and her wider community. Key themes include the improvisational and interactive elements of theatre and how these can be used to break the barriers of distinction between performers and audience, discovering how performance can be used to create a space for individual and social change. As such, ‘Fforwm’ is about realising the socio-political potential of performance art, as much about theatre as a new and creative means of social activism; empowering people, to be actors and take action in theirs own lives.
